What is the Difference Between Backups and a Disaster Recovery Plan?

Backups and disaster recovery plans are related but distinct concepts in data protection.

The method includes the procedures and technologies that an organization will use to restore its systems, networks, and data in the event of a disaster, such as a natural disaster, cyberattack, or hardware failure.

A DRP is much more than just backups. It also includes steps such as identifying critical systems and data, determining recovery time objectives, testing recovery procedures, and establishing communication plans to ensure that all stakeholders are informed during a disaster.

In conclusion, backups are essential to disaster recovery, but a disaster recovery plan encompasses much more.
